Eric Walsh’s Guide to Selling on Amazon: You’re One Product Away from Financial Freedom

What’s up, everyone! My name is Eric Walsh, and I’m writing to tell you about the insane power of Amazon. With the right strategy, you are just one product away from total financial freedom—trust me, I did it myself, and have successfully helped dozens of students do it, too.

When I first started selling on Amazon in 2013 I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I knew that Amazon was going to be massive—maybe not as massive as it is today, but I could tell it would become a conglomerate, surpassing the success of other popular e-commerce platforms like eBay.

You might say, “Eric, you’re full of crap. How could you have seen that coming?” My response is this: Early on, the difference between Amazon and eBay was clear. Tons of sellers were making crazy money selling on eBay, but the site’s persona was getting in the way of its growth and success. Back in 2013, nobody even realized that the products being sold on Amazon were sold by everyday people like you and me. Amazon had high-quality standards when it came to a product’s image, quality, return policy, exchange policy, and the customer experience in general. eBay, on the other hand, was more of the Wild West, known more for one-off or used items. Because of this, it’s clear why more people would gravitate towards a platform like Amazon over eBay.

Amazon evolved, introducing Amazon Prime and fast shipping to better serve and rapidly increase their customer base by offering the fastest delivery services in the world for virtually any product you could think of. The game changed completely with Amazon FBA, or “fulfilled by Amazon,” the locations where Amazon stores, picks, packs, and ships all of the orders for everyday sellers.

Amazon FBA allows the products sold by you and me to be Amazon Prime badged, providing us the opportunity to scale our businesses and take them to the next level relatively easily. Most people that sell on eBay are selling thrifty, one-off type items—at least this is how it was years ago. With Amazon, I can take a single product and sell it thousands of times over without any of the heavy lifting.

Selling on Amazon makes life much easier. You don’t need to sell hundreds of different products to make a lot of money—I’m talking $100,000, or even $1 million. Consider this: You could sell a product for $20 and make $10 profit per unit. Sell 100 units per day, and you’ll rake in $1,000 profit—$30,000 per month and $360,000 per year.

I know, I know, some of you are rolling your eyes, like “Okay, Eric. Easier said than done.” 100 units a day is a lot of sales, but it’s easily attainable. Allow me to give you another, smaller-scale example: Selling just 20 units per day, making $5 profit per unit, will earn you an extra $100 a day, $700 a week, $2800 a month, and an extra $33,600 per year! Does that sound more doable to you? It’s a great place to start. Most of my students start off selling on Amazon as a side hustle for extra income, only to leave their 9-to-5 jobs later on because Amazon gave them complete freedom and the ability to make a lot more money than they did at their job—putting in just one-fifth of the time! It’s the truth: You are just one product away from having complete control over your life.

I always share the products that I sell. If you read other articles that I’ve published, I’ve mentioned a few of the odder products I sell that have made me a lot of money and are completely automated by Amazon. For example, I sell an accessory for Apple AirPod—a silicone ear clip that you can slide your AirPod into when you put it in your ear so that they do not fall out during exercise. You might say, “Wow, that’s a great idea!” However, it’s not easy to just stumble upon these homerun products. I only found it because of the unique way I’ve taught myself and my students to do product research. The product costs me less than a dollar to purchase, and I sell it for $6.99. I started off with 200 units per color, four colors total. Do the math—for less than $1,000, I had 800 units to sell. Today, I make between $2-$3.50 per unit sold on Amazon—completely on autopilot! I have not messed with the listing or done any maintenance in over a year, and I sell between 30 and 50 units per day!
