New York has a different way to manage its taxi industry in comparison to other American cities. In a survey conducted by Boherald, it is found that New York has got yellow cabs, Broadway and an excellent subway system. Apart from this, the ride-hailing regulation in the city is better than other places in the US.
The city officials are also working to assist drivers in dealing with the problem of high debt. Recently, Mayor Bill de Blasio made an announcement to maintain one year freeze on “for-hire vehicle” registration. In addition to this, the mayor said that laws would be framed to force ride-hail companies to reduce their drivers’ waiting time for their next rides. Efforts are also being made to increase their drivers’ wage to help them earn well. Even other cites have taken inspiration from New York City and are making efforts to reduce the traffic on their roads by reducing the waiting time for cab drivers.
New York’s Taxi and Limousine Commission has mentioned that about 30% of Manhattan traffic is due to ‘hire vehicles’ and the 40% of empty cars which spend their time free without carrying any passenger contribute to the city’s traffic on a large scale. This has led the city officials to suggest cab operating companies such as Uber and Lyft to reduce this waiting time by 31% by August 2020.
Due to the active participation of the city officials in improving the taxi industry in New York, things have improved substantially for cab operators as well as drivers. Many cab industry giants have got benefitted due to the efforts of the city officials for the correct functioning of cab services. In other American cities, things have also followed the New York model to improve their system. Many long duration taxi services like Long Distance Taxi to Newark Airport in New Jersey have received a lot of benefits due to it. People opt for long journey taxi service to transfer themselves from the airport in a comfortable manner.
