US president Donald Trump is confident that Mexico will oblige with the new immigration deal that has been drafted in order to boost security on the Southern border and for immigration control in the United States.
The deal was announced following three consecutive days of negotiations in Washington. Trump threatened that a 5% import tariff will be imposed on Mexican goods provided they did not agree to the immigration deal.
“Mexico will try very hard, and if they do that, this will be a very successful agreement between the United States and Mexico,” exclaimed Trump on Twitter.
It is believed that the deal is to be put in place in order to curb the immigration issues that arise between Mexico and The United States. The deal was announced by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin at a G20 meeting in Fukuoka, Japan.
They also warned that if Mexico failed to impose the new immigration deal, the import tariff will be put in place that would be greatly damaging to Mexico. The Trump administration confirmed that Mexico has been hit hard by the trade war between China and Mexico. And for this reason, Mexico will seek to purchase Agriculture goods from the USA on an immediate basis.
“I can’t allow anyone to go against our country’s economy and even less so if it establishes an unjust asymmetry, unworthy of our government and humiliating for our nation,” said Lopez Obrador.
Trump’s manifesto consisted of strong action against immigration control and he even declared that he would build a wall around Mexico in order to minimize illegal immigration.
