16-Year old boy from Bhopal died of a heart attack as a result of his addiction to PUBG. Furqan Qureshi, a grade 12 student, played PUBG for 6 hours straight. His family said that he started playing at 7 pm and after a while, they could hear him screaming at other players before he suffered a cardiac arrest on his bed.
Before he collapsed he complained of a headache. His sister Fizza claims that Furqan may have taken the game too seriously and was stressed out about losing a life on the game.
“The severe cardiac arrest that was possibly caused by sudden deep shock. It’s possible that since the teenager had been playing the game for long hours at a stretch, he could have delved into some kind of syndrome from which it was difficult to come out. “The excitement of the video game might have caused a surge in adrenalin causing increased heart rate and cardiac arrest,” Dr. Ashak stated.
A growing number of youngsters, especially in India, are becoming addicted to the game. And recently, the Gujrat government has put a complete ban on PUBG due to its ill effects and addictive nature. Since 2017, the game has been downloaded almost 360 Million times across the world. A recent video even showed a groom playing the game on his wedding day as his confused bride looked on bewildered by the lack of attention.
