Commercial Kitchens in UAE has been using AI-powered camera in order to reduce the food wastage equals 1.6 million meals per year. The device ‘Winnow Vision’ makes use of Artificial Technology (AI) to detect the type and quality of food items getting thrown into the bin. As per the revelation by Marc Zornes, co-founder and CEO of Winnow, the data available from the use of the AI-enabled device would allow tracking food waste by making necessary changes to the food purchases and menus.
Zornes said that the highly accurate system ‘Winnow Vision’ is helping the UAE’s hospitality industry save around Dh10 million every year by saving meals. It not only helps to prevent food wastage but also allows the restaurants to detect the taste of people. UAE, through the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, has pledged that it will achieve the target of saving 50% of food losses and waste by 2030, in order to meet UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Using technology innovation, efforts are being made to utilize Artificial intelligence in order to manage and eliminate food wastage in order to end the world hunger problem. The use of the AI-enabled system Winnow Vision automatically recognizes the food item, which is being thrown in the bin, with the help of camera in it. And it is not the only sector in which AI is employed to save the food and hence protect the environment.
The AI-based robots are in high use for meeting environment and wildlife conservation goals. Problems such as poaching have reduced significantly with the use of AI technology. One such AI-enabled robot is JJAIBOT, which explains how AIs can combine the power of wildlife research and citizen science to assess wildlife health and habitat, speeding population analysis and conservation action.
