Dutee Chand, the Indian sprinter, revealed on Sunday that she is in a same-sex relationship with a girl from her hometown of Chaka Gopalpur which is in Odisha. However, Dutee Chand did not reveal the identity of her partner as she doesn’t want to make her the centre of undue attention. Dutee’s elder sister said on Monday that the sprinter’s partner “pressurized and blackmailed” her for property and wealth.
Saraswati Chand, elder sister of the Asian Games medalist said, ” I have to say with great sorrow that the decision taken by Dutee is not of her own and she has been pressurised and blackmailed into marriage by that girl and her family. The sole purpose of this is to grab the property and wealth of Dutee” .
“Dutee’s property and even life are in danger. That is why it is my request to the government to provide protection and security to Dutee” she added.
Dutee came out of the closet recently and revealed that she is in a same-sex relationship.
Saraswati is also an athlete. She made serious allegations and said that her sister has been led into a trap to deviate her from her sports.
When BOherald asked if the family is supportive of Dutee’s relation, Saraswati said that she is an adult and it is her decision whether she wants to marry a boy or a girl. But Dutee has been badly forced to speak all this, otherwise, a decision about marriage could have been discussed at a later stage.”
“When a child excels, the family members are happy. They get good social prestige and people congratulate the parents as well. On the contrary, if a child commits a wrong deed then only the family will take the responsibility,” she opined.
Dutee was hailed for her revelation. She got a lot of praise on social media for her courage. She had made the country proud by clinching two silver medals at the 2018 Asian Games.
